High-Performance Center

Mobility Systems, Karlsruhe

Profilregion Mobilitätssysteme Karlsruhe

The four Fraunhofer Institutes ICT, IOSB, ISI and IWM as well as the Fraunhofer New Propulsion Systems NAS Project Group, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and the FZI Research Center for Informatics are investigating the mobility of the future.

Seven initialization projects address the key challenges of efficient, intelligent and integrated mobility across the entire thematic spectrum and connect key players from science, applied research and industry. The High-Performance Center will combine existing skills for the development of pioneering mobility solutions and create the necessary partner structures to strengthen the mobility location of Baden-Württemberg in the long term.

The individual research projects shed light on very different facets of mobility: for example, one project analyzes the changed mobility requirements due to aging or urbanization and then develops new mobility concepts and technical solutions. Two other projects address future urban infrastructure and connected mobility with the help of new ICT platforms.

In addition, automated and autonomous mobility is the subject of another project in which a self-driving car is to be built and powered. Researchers will continue to investigate (hybrid) electric and combustion-engine drives against the backdrop of efficiency gains and the potential to reduce CO2. A final project deals with integrated lightweight construction through intelligent material combinations.
