In 2001 the Fraunhofer Representative Office Japan was established in Tokyo in order to facilitate collaboration with Japanese industry and science partners. Mr. Miki is heading the office in Tokyo. The office receives about 300 technical requests from Japanese companies per year.

Fraunhofer Project Center “NEMS / MEMS Devices and Manufacturing Technologies at Tohoku University”
In 2013 the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS jointly installed a Fraunhofer Project Center for NEMS/MEMS Devices and Manufacturing Technologies with Tohoku University in Sendai. The project center is targeting on research and development in the field of smart systems integration by using micro and nano technologies and implementing newest material knowledge.
