The High-Performance Center Logistics and IT has set itself the goal of making logistics a key science of future industry and strengthening logistics research at the interface between logistics and IT. The researchers are creating a comprehensive roadmap with strategic thematic areas that will serve logistics research as an action plan for the coming years and will become the basis for new research programs in logistics and information logistics – the systematic combination of logistics and informatics.
In particular, it will reflect the current state of research in logistics at the science location Dortmund. The High-Performance Center will combine and interlink the activities of local universities, institutes, initiatives and projects. Currently, nine interdisciplinary research groups (“research clans”) are assigned to four strategic theme clusters (“perspectives”). Topics include human-technology interactions, cognitive ergonomics, multi-agent systems, digital processes, virtual and simulative models for evaluating the economics and maturity of autonomous systems, optimization and simulation of logistics networks, advanced data processing technologies, digital business engineering and data network engineering. In addition, pilot projects for innovative concepts and prototypes, such as the Boehringer Ingelheim Lab, a cooperation between the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Technology ISST and the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim that focusses on the topic of data-driven life science business, are integrated into the High-Performance Center.
The High-Performance Center is funded by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition to the two Fraunhofer Institutes IML and ISST, the partners are EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr, the Technical University of Dortmund, the Leibniz Institute for Labor Research at the TU Dortmund University and the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim. The Graduate School of Logistics in Dortmund, the central training program for doctoral candidates in logistics throughout Germany, is also involved in the High-Performance Center.
