Ten years of environmental management pays off for Lufthansa CityLine with renewal of eco certification

Wed 5 Aug 2009 – Lufthansa CityLine, the regional subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa, has obtained for the third year in a row a renewed certification of the European EMAS eco-audit regulations. In addition, it has been re-certified for compliance with the international ISO 14001 environmental standard. Both certificates apply to the three CityLine locations at Cologne, Munich and Hamburg. It was the first airline to receive both certificates and remains only one of two carriers worldwide to satisfy the requirements of both standards.
Lufthansa CityLine first established an environmental management system in 2009, which now encompasses all areas within the company, from aircraft maintenance and administration through to flight operations. Alongside regular replacement of its fleet with new, modern and environmentally compatible aircraft, the airline says ongoing reduction of noise and emissions are primary corporate goals.
It is taking delivery of 20 larger and more fuel efficient Embraer E190/195 regional jets from this autumn onwards, while withdrawing from service 35 smaller and older aircraft.
